The last migration trap of compact objects in AGN accretion disc

چکیده
ABSTRACT Many black holes detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo detectors are multiple times more massive than those in X-ray binaries. One possibility is that some binary (BBHs) merge within a few Schwarzschild radii of supermassive hole (SMBH), so gravitational waves (GWs) highly redshifted, causing mass inferred from GW signals to appear higher real mass. The difficulty this scenario lies delivery BBH such small distance SMBH. Here we revisit theoretical models for migration compact objects (COs) accretion discs active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We find when rate high disc best described slim model, COs could migrate radius close innermost stable circular orbit be trapped there remaining lifetime AGN. exact trapping coincides with transition region between sub- super-Keplerian rotation disc. call ‘the last trap’ because further inward, can no longer long time. pinpoint parameter space induce trap estimate contributes per cent LIGO/Virgo events. Our result implies couple BBHs discovered far have smaller intrinsic masses.

Different manifestations of accretion onto compact objects
Millihertz quasi-periodic oscillations (mHz QPOs) reported in three neutronstar low mass X-ray binaries have been suggested to be a mode of marginally stable nuclear burning on the neutron star surface. In this Letter, we show that close to the transition between the island and the banana state, 4U 1636– 53 shows mHz QPOs whose frequency systematically decreases with time until the oscillations...
متن کاملPhysics of accretion flows around compact objects
Several physical and astrophysical problems related to accretion onto black holes and neutron stars are shortly reviewed. I discuss the observed differences between these two types of compact objects in quiescent Soft X-ray Transients. Then I review the status of various non-standard objects suggested as an alternative to black-holes. Finally I present new results and suggestion about the natur...
متن کاملConstraints on AGN accretion disc viscosity derived from continuum variability
We estimate a value of the viscosity parameter in AGN accretion discs for the PG quasar sample. We assume that optical variability on time-scales of months to years is caused by local instabilities in the inner accretion disc. Comparing the observed variability time-scales to the thermal time-scales of α-disc models we obtain constraints on the viscosity parameter for the sample. We find that, ...
متن کاملFeeding Compact Objects: Accretion on All Scales
By collecting 17 short gamma-ray bursts with necessary data, we find a correlation of Lp ∝ E .7 p ,i , which is very consistent with that derived from a greatly expanded sample of 148 Swift long gamma-ray bursts. It is argued that the radiation mechanism of both long and short gamma-ray bursts should be similar, i.e., of quasi-thermal origin caused by the photosphere and the dissipation occurri...
متن کاملTransonic properties of the accretion disk around compact objects
An accretion flow is necessarily transonic around a black hole. However, around a neutron star it may or may not be transonic, depending on the inner disk boundary conditions influenced by the neutron star. I will discuss various transonic behavior of the disk fluid in general relativistic (or pseudo general relativistic) framework. I will address that there are four types of sonic/critical poi...
